Bereans who were the focus of Luke's commendation in Acts 17:10-12 reflect the commitment of this local church. Chartered in 1973 and regrouped in 1993, we are a young church. Some of the Bible distinctives for church policy and goals listed below were adopted by major church denominations at their inception. Historically, Baptists have been known as a people (individuals) who accept the Bible as God's Word and the sole (dependable and all-sufficient) rule for faith and practice (2 Timothy 3:16). This focus has a price in terms of commitment, but Baptists see the price of worldly alternatives, for individuals and society, to be much higher. The Berean Baptist Church of Boone, Iowa holds the following Baptist distinctives:
The Bible is the Holy and Inerrant Word of God, Our Creator (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21) The Lordship of Christ, Our Head (Mark 16:16; John 1:1-4; Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 13:1-3) Born-Again Church Membership (John 3:16-18; Acts 2:38, 3:19; Romans 10:10; James 3; Hebrews 4:14) The Independence of the Local Church Under God (Acts 6:1-6; 1 Corinthians 5:13; Matthew 16:18) Two Officers - Pastor and Deacons (1 Timothy 3; Philippians 1:1; Titus 1:5-9) Two Ordinances - Baptism (By Immersion After Salvation) and the Lord's Supper (Acts 2:41; 1 Corinthians 11:1-34; Romans 6:1-4) Separation of Church and State (Matthew 22:21; Romans 13) The Priesthood of All Believers - Direct Access to the Throne of Grace, to worship God and to pray for others and self (Revelation 1:6; 1 Peter 2:5,9) |
